Set-Asides

Suppose I set aside Benaiah with Provisions.  Where does Provisions go?  Discarded, etc?  Can I attack with Micah and shuffle Provisions back into my deck the turn I set Benaiah aside?

Set-aside Enhancements follow the character to the set-aside area.  After 2 turns Benaiah returns to your territory and Provisions is discarded.  Micah can then shuffle Provisions back into your deck.

Can we get this in the REG? Prof U just wasted a ton of my time because this isn't in the REG.

I have always played all set asides the way Gabe described above. Not sure I've ever heard of it being played any other way before. Some people will keep the set-aside enhancement on the character just as a reminder, but technically it is supposed to be discarded upon return from set-aside.

The question was about them going to set-aside in the first place.

I agree that if the set aside enh must go with the character to the set aside area, that we should have that either in the REG or the Rulebook or something.

I'm also not totally sure that this needs to be a rule.  Typically enhs only follow characters if they are placed on the character or if they are WC.  So although I understand putting the enh over there just as a reminder of how long it will last or whatever, I'm not sure that it is necessary for it to be there rather than discarded immediately after being played.

Is there another reason for this precedent, or is it just to help people keep track of things?

I'm relatively sure that this is game rule, actually, though I couldn't tell you why. If a card sets-aside another card, it follows that card into set-aside (the only exception I can think of is the Shame LS). I've been playing it that Nebby's Pride is set-aside for four turns as well for years now.

I could put all the quotes from the rulebook and REG that reference "set-aside" here but that would be a lot so I'd probably need more than one post.  Suffice to say, there is no indication in the rulebook or REG that requires a set-aside card to be placed with a character when set aside.  It should therefore be discarded immediately if played during prep/discard phases, or during battle resolution in the battle phase.

Oh, I did find this quote that will need to be fixed so I will post it on the corrections thread:

Quote
Set-aside enhancements
A set-aside enhancement has the phrase “set a (type of character) aside” in its special ability. A set-aside enhancement can be played on a character of matching brigade in your territory during your Preparation Phase or Discard Phase. Its special ability activates even though it is played outside of battle. You may also play them in battle according to the rules of initiative. You can direct the effect of the set-aside card to any character you own and currently control. You may set aside a character with multiple set-aside cards if they are played at the same time.

I'm fine either way, but I see no reason to overturn the way set-asides have been played since blue packs.

My only reason is that the set aside card doesn't SAY to send it with the character.  And since the REG and rulebook don't either, there's really no reason to do it.

Basically we just have to decide whether we want set-aside enhs to work like:
1 - placed enhs and WC enhs that follow characters
2 - regular enhs that are discarded at the end of the phase they are played

I guess I'd rather avoid having a 3rd exception to normal enhs, so I'd lean toward #2.

Hey,

The following paragraph was in REG 2.0 while we were working on it.  I don't know how/why it got left out of the public release.  I am not aware of any plan to change the rule so I assume it just got lost in editing somewhere.

Quote
Set-aside enhancements are set aside to the same set-aside area as the cards they set aside.  If a set aside enhancement is played during battle it remains in battle until the end of battle and then is moved to the set-aside area to join the cards it set aside when other enhancements in battle are discarded.  When the cards a set aside enhancement set aside return to play the set aside enhancement is discarded.
