Not at all. You wouldn't build a Judges deck without silver, and you wouldn't NOT utilize the speed that's blatantly handed to them with Samuel. Heck, even if you didn't use them, I'd still argue that gold is stronger because of Water Jar.

As a standalone (with a small amount of alternate splash for Samuel and the Angels), gold is most certainly the better brigade. It has more and better drawing, two CBN enhancements, and comparable character abilities. Add in some NT gold, and it's miles better.

They are both good but would you build a sam deck without red, in fact my sam deck has more red then gold. Granted the gold GC's can be better with the help of silver, the only deck with gold and no red that I can think of is judges, and even still red ended up in my judges deck, and rescued quite often. The other option for a gold deck that does not have red in it is Samaritans, and my Samaritans did not win hardly anything. Just count how many red GC's are in your sam deck, or try building a judges deck without using any red (not even David).  ;)

Don't get me wrong, I believe spread offenses (read:Samuel decks) are superior to both gold and red, however, the debate is between those specific brigades, so that's what I'm arguing. In the case of gold, I'm not talking about adding Samuel to make it a Sam deck, just using a deck that's otherwise gold (with some silver) and adding Sam's speed, since most people would consider Sam to be first and foremost a judge (at least in Redemption).
