I think that we should have a rule that whoever is winning when neither player wants to play any cards for a certain number of turns, gets the win.  However, this should be discussed in the Suggestion Box thread.

I haven't voted because I'm still not 100% on where I stand, I would prefer their not be a time limit, but would be ok if their was one as well.  But I feel the above statement would be a better alternative!

2 - A (preferred)

+1  I think that we should have a rule that whoever is winning when neither player wants to play any cards for a certain number of turns, gets the win.

I would strongly disagree.  When this type of situation comes up, this rule would completely change the game.  I feel that a time limit should be inherent to the game (even though, in many cases, I believe it to be too short).
From my play in the past I experience roughly the same situation that Tim does.  Many of my game are fairly short but others significantly longer... there is very rarely a happy medium.

This being said, I would be for a two hour (maybe even 2.5 hour) time limit, simply to eliminate an infinite loop situation.  I found that very rarely did a game go longer than two hours...

Gates of Hell is by far the best card in the game.  No questions asked.

no limit whatsoever

prof
the 2nd question doesn't make any sense
it should be a yes or no answer but you just put time limits on a "yes/no" question
if any limit i want for roo to allow 5 hours of play as well as games
cause i don't like time limits, cause time in never on my side

The second question is really 2 parts.  The first part is "Do you want a time limit?"  If your answer is "no" (like you), then you pick choice "a" for "none".

If your answer is "yes", then the second part of the second question is "What do you want that time limit to be?".  So if you DO want a time limit, then you pick one of the answers "b" through "g" depending on how long you think it should be.

Just another update to the votes so far, eliminating options with 2 or less votes, we have:

Expected game length:
1.5 hrs - 9 votes
1.0 hrs - 6 votes
2.0 hrs - 5 votes

Desired time limit:
1.5 hrs - 7 votes
2.0 hrs - 6 votes
No limit - 6 votes

In case there are any other ROOT players who haven't voted yet...
How long do you expect an average ROOT game to last?
(a)30min             (b)45min     (c)1hr     (d)1.5 hr     (e)2hr     (f)2.5hr     (g)3hr

Do you want a time limit in ROOT?
(a)no time limit     (b) 45min     (c)1hr     (d)1.5hr     (e)2hr     (f)2.5hr     (g)3hr

Will the winning option determine how April ROOT is played? Because that may affect who would like to join, so if it'll become official, it's probably best to say that before the new tournament starts.

1. 45 min. for a game

2. any as long as there is some technical way to keep up with a time limit a.k.a. built in to the program
This is the way Lackey gave it to me. All hail the power of Lackey!

The ROOT leadership had our monthly meeting tonight and all changes for the April ROOT will be announced later tonight.  They do include a time limit.  This thread has been helpful for providing feedback on time limits from ROOT participants, and we thank everyone for their participation.

In the end we decided to go with the compromise position between the top 3 vote-getters.  Therefore, we will experiment this month with a 2 hour time limit for ROOT.  This time limit may be waived at the beginning of the game if both players agree to do so.

Contrary to popular belief, I don't think that most of my games actually take more than 2 hrs.  Having the time limit will be a good way for me to see whether this is an accurate perception or not :)

I'd almost say b-c if its experienced players. No time limit.

Thanks for the vote, but actually ROOT did implement a 2 hour time limit on "official" games back in April.  Players can waive it at the beginning of a game if they both agree to.

I also would like to point out that in 4 months sense that has gone into affect, I have only had 1 timeout game (4-4) and that ended with both players locked out.  I would also like to point out that at the MW Regional tournament that Jon Greeson and myself were the ONLY 2 players (out of 16 or so) in T2-2p who never timed-out a single game.  It just goes to show that sometimes perception (that I'm slow) doesn't fit reality.
